Southwest District Clergy Event

Steele, RodneyHispanic Ministries

Rev. Jim Benfer, Dardanelle First UMC, has done a good job in Hispanic ministries in Dardanelle, Arkansas.  I’ve asked Jim to come to Arkadelphia and visit with us about the ministry to see if his model will work for you in your mission field.

Here is Jim’s description of what he’d like to share.

  • Studying the local demographics
  • Testing the waters (organizing efforts that will attract Hispanic families to the church)
  • Prayer
  • Getting congregational support
  • Getting start-up grant funding & local church funding
  • Aligning church needs with people’s needs
  • Understanding Hispanic culture
  • The current Hispanic Protestant Reformation
  • Understanding Hispanic worship
  • Building key relationships
  • Attracting and training Hispanic leaders
  • Starting Bible studies and prayer groups
  • Starting worship services

You will notice that starting worship services is at the end of a long list of things that really need to happen before the first worship service begins.  It is in building the culture of Change and Transformation within the local congregation that must happen long before your desire to reach new groups can find traction within a local church.

He is coming December 10th, noon till 2 p.m. I hope you can attend and, if so, we will provide lunch.  Thank you for your ministry.   God bless!  —  Rodney

In order to have a head count for lunch, please register for this meeting either by email or by calling the District office.
